Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan sharply criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a "comedy king," following a protest by opposition members at the Parliament complex. The protest centered around allegations involving industrialist Gautam Adani, during which Gandhi conducted a satirical mock interview with Congress members wearing masks depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani. The opposition's demonstration was part of a broader effort to press for a detailed investigation into the Adani Group’s business dealings.
Pradhan, addressing the media, accused Gandhi of trying to remain politically relevant through such acts. He suggested that the Congress leader’s approach undermined the seriousness of parliamentary debates and claimed the protest was orchestrated to deflect attention from Congress’s internal challenges. The minister further mocked the opposition for resorting to what he described as theatrics rather than engaging in constructive discussions in the legislature.
Gandhi, responding in the Lok Sabha, questioned the government’s transparency and accountability, particularly in relation to allegations of financial irregularities. He accused the ruling party of shielding Adani from scrutiny and asserted that the broader issue of systemic corruption needed immediate attention. Congress members have repeatedly demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allegations against Adani, an issue that has dominated political discourse over the past weeks.
Pradhan’s remarks also extended to the opposition’s overall strategy, labeling their actions as desperate attempts to regain political ground. He argued that such protests failed to resonate with the public, who he claimed were more interested in governance and development than in political stunts. Meanwhile, the BJP continues to dismiss allegations against Adani as politically motivated, emphasizing the group’s role in contributing to India’s economic progress.
