A leading Urdu organization has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing concerns over the lack of acknowledgment of the Urdu language during Constitution Day celebrations held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution's adoption. The letter emphasized the importance of Urdu in India's linguistic and cultural heritage and criticized its exclusion from the commemorations at the event in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan.
This event, featuring addresses by the President, Vice-President, and Prime Minister, was organized to honor the adoption of the Constitution and its historical significance. However, the Urdu organization raised objections to the absence of representation for Urdu, which they argue is one of the integral languages of India and carries constitutional recognition under the Eighth Schedule.
The organization urged the Speaker to ensure equal representation of all constitutionally recognized languages at such events, arguing that neglecting any language undermines the principle of equality enshrined in the Constitution. This plea also highlighted the need for government programs and celebrations to be inclusive, reflecting the diverse linguistic heritage of the nation.
