Both leaders have faced backlash over allegations linked to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) and family-managed trusts, weakening their prospects as potential successors to Siddaramaiah.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, once considered Siddaramaiah’s likely successor, also appears to be on the defensive due to political dynamics within the party. Meanwhile, veteran Congress leader and former minister R.V. Deshpande has expressed interest in the role but faces hurdles, including limited support from Congress’s majority MLAs.
