Tensions continue to mount in Canada-India relations, leading the Indian government to halt scheduled consular camps in Toronto and other locations across Canada. This action follows disruptive incidents reportedly orchestrated by anti-India groups at a consular camp held in Brampton on November 3, where violence and security breaches threatened the safety of both staff and attendees. Organized in partnership with the Hindu Sabha Mandir, the event faced unprecedented interference that left the High Commission alarmed over security shortcomings despite prior requests for enhanced protective measures.
The Indian High Commission condemned the disruptions, describing them as part of a broader effort to undermine essential consular services, particularly for individuals seeking life certificates—a critical document for Indian pension beneficiaries residing in Canada. Beyond the Brampton incident, attempts to disrupt similar camps in Vancouver and Surrey were reported over the weekend, adding to the tension. Nonetheless, over a thousand life certificates were processed successfully across these events, as confirmed by Indian officials.
