Canada Lifts Extra Security Measures for India-Bound Travelers

Canada has reversed its decision to impose additional security checks on passengers traveling to India, just days after announcing the enhanced measures. The move comes following a thorough reassessment of the security situation, according to Canada's federal transport minister, Anita Anand. These security protocols were initially introduced in response to a bomb scare involving an Air India flight last October, though subsequent investigations found no threat.

The heightened security measures had been put in place by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) as a precautionary measure. The checks included additional screenings of carry-on bags, hand swabs to detect traces of substances, and more physical inspections of passengers, causing delays at airports. Travelers had been warned that these enhanced procedures might lead to longer wait times, as the extra steps were designed to address potential terrorist threats amidst ongoing tensions between Canada and India.
