CIDCO Promises Action on Illegal Construction near Navi Mumbai Airport

A religious site near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport has sparked controversy, with concerns raised by right-wing Hindu groups over a dargah they allege poses potential security risks and constitutes unauthorized expansion. Following this, the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO) has pledged to address any unapproved structures within the vicinity, underscoring its mandate to ensure that development around the airport abides by legal parameters.

Located on a hillock, the dargah’s origins reportedly trace back to modest beginnings in 2012, involving painted stones marking the area. Over the years, however, it has reportedly grown to cover an acre of land, drawing criticism from groups claiming the expansion was carried out without formal approval. The calls for investigation and potential demolition stem from these allegations, with proponents insisting that unregulated construction could compromise the security of the nearby infrastructure.
