Israel on high alert after Hezbollah vows retaliation following pager blasts

Israel has bolstered its military presence along its northern border as tensions escalate with Hezbollah following deadly pager explosions that rocked Lebanon. The unprecedented attack, involving over 300 explosive devices hidden in pagers, left 11 people dead and more than 3,000 injured, sparking widespread outrage and threats of retaliation from Hezbollah.

The explosions occurred simultaneously across Lebanon, targeting civilian and military personnel, including Hezbollah members. Accusations quickly pointed towards Israel, with Lebanese officials condemning the incident as a violation of their sovereignty. Hezbollah, which saw its fighters among the casualties, declared its intent to retaliate, holding Israel "fully responsible" for what it termed as "criminal aggression." In a statement, the militant group warned that Israel would face severe consequences for the attacks, signaling the possibility of an armed response.

Although Israel has not officially claimed responsibility, its defense forces are on heightened alert. Israeli Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi indicated that the country remains prepared for both defense and offense, particularly in light of Hezbollah’s rhetoric. Authorities have also reassured civilians, with the Home Front Command promising to provide updates should the situation escalate.

Diplomatic reactions to the incident have been swift. The United States, which denies any prior knowledge of the pager explosions, is reportedly investigating the matter. Meanwhile, Iranian media claimed that Hezbollah’s leadership had been the primary target, and Iranian officials have issued statements supporting Lebanon’s right to respond.
