Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing to move into a new official office complex in New Delhi, with the transition expected to coincide with Makar Sankranti on January 14, according to officials familiar with the preparations. The move would mark a significant milestone in the government’s overhaul of administrative infrastructure under the Central Vista redevelopment.The destination is the newly built Seva Teerth complex, a key component of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. Construction and interior work at the site have reached the final stages, and security checks, systems testing, and phased handovers are understood to be underway to enable the Prime Minister’s Office to begin operations from the new address.
Officials said the plan involves relocating not only the Prime Minister’s Office but also the Cabinet Secretariat and the National Security Council Secretariat to the Seva Teerth campus. Each institution will operate from a separate building within the complex, a design choice intended to balance functional autonomy with proximity for coordination on policy and national security matters.
The Seva Teerth complex has been conceived as a modern administrative hub, integrating secure workspaces, digital infrastructure, and sustainability features. Officials involved in the project say the layout has been planned to reduce inter-departmental travel time, streamline decision-making, and support round-the-clock operations. Advanced communication systems, secure conference facilities, and upgraded crisis-management rooms form part of the design brief, reflecting the expanding scope of the Prime Minister’s administrative and strategic responsibilities.
The timing of the move carries symbolic weight.
