Police say the gathering was called without prior permission to address demands for Gurjar political representation and removal of a board bearing the name of Samrat Mihir Bhoj.
On being alerted to the unauthorised meeting, administration imposed restrictions and mobilised law enforcement including PAC units along key routes toward Kapsad. Key figures among organisers included Ravindra Bhati, national president of the Rashtriya Veer Gurjar Sangharsh Samiti, who was detained near Dadri Morh, according to police statements.
Local sources assert that tension escalated following Bhati’s detention; crowds gathered, and some members allegedly hurled stones at police attempts to disperse them. Police reject those claims, insisting there was no instance of stone pelting and accusing “outsiders” of trying to spoil the environment.
Law enforcement are reviewing CCTV and viral video footage to establish who instigated the disturbance. An FIR has been filed against 22 named individuals and unspecified others under various law and order provisions.
Community leaders argue that the Mahapanchayat was intended as a peaceful assertion of Gurjar identity and demand for dignity, especially around contested historical symbols. Supporters cite longstanding grievances including perceived marginalisation in local administration and recognition of cultural icons like Mihir Bhoj.
