Union Home Minister Amit Shah's defence of the Constitution Bill, 2025, has drawn sharp criticism from Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal, who accused the government of using the law to target opposition leaders. The proposed amendment seeks to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and other ministers from office if they are arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days for offences punishable by at least five years' imprisonment. Unlike the current law, which requires a conviction, this bill proposes removal without one, leading to concerns over its potential misuse.
