At the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit 2025, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan highlighted India's pivotal role in the global creator landscape. He revealed that over the past three years, YouTube has disbursed more than ₹21,000 crore to Indian creators and partners. In the last year alone, content produced in India amassed 45 billion hours of global watch time, with over 15,000 Indian channels surpassing one million subscribers.
Mohan emphasised the transformative potential of AI in content creation, stating that new tools will assist creators in areas such as auto-dubbing, background generation, and video editing. These innovations aim to reduce production time and costs, enabling creators to focus more on storytelling and audience engagement.
The investment also includes initiatives to provide training and resources for creators to navigate the evolving digital landscape. By integrating AI tools, YouTube seeks to enhance content quality and accessibility, catering to diverse audiences across different languages and regions.
This strategic move aligns with India's broader efforts to support the digital economy. In March, the government announced a \$1 billion fund to boost the creator economy, alongside plans to establish the Indian Institute of Creative Technology in Mumbai. These initiatives aim to foster innovation and provide infrastructure for content creators nationwide.
