Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum engaged in discussions in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation, including the potential co-development of military equipment. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for the Crown Prince's visit, highlighting its significance in reinforcing bilateral ties. He remarked on social media platform X, "This special visit reaffirms our deep-rooted friendship and paves the way for even stronger collaboration in the future."
The dialogue between the leaders centred on expanding defence collaboration, with particular emphasis on joint ventures in military equipment development. This initiative aligns with India's 'Make in India' programme, aiming to bolster indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities through international partnerships.
In addition to defence, the discussions encompassed economic cooperation. Both parties acknowledged the positive impact of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement implemented in May 2022, which has facilitated increased trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed advancements in technology and space exploration. The UAE's ambitious space initiatives, including the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt, present opportunities for collaboration with India's space research institutions, fostering knowledge exchange and joint research endeavours.
