BJP Disavows MPs' Supreme Court Criticism Amid Internal Tensions

The Bharatiya Janata Party has publicly distanced itself from controversial remarks made by its Members of Parliament, Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma, concerning the Supreme Court, with party president J P Nadda asserting that these statements reflect personal opinions and are not endorsed by the party.

Nadda's clarification came in response to comments by Dubey and Sharma that were perceived as critical of the judiciary. While the specific content of their statements was not detailed in public communications, the party's swift disavowal indicates a desire to maintain a respectful stance towards the judiciary and uphold institutional decorum.

This development follows a series of incidents involving BJP MPs and the judiciary. Notably, the Supreme Court recently upheld a Jharkhand High Court decision to quash a criminal case against Dubey and fellow MP Manoj Tiwari. The case pertained to allegations that the MPs coerced Air Traffic Control officials at Deoghar Airport to approve the takeoff of their chartered flight beyond permissible hours in August 2022. The Court found no grounds under the Indian Penal Code to proceed with the case and directed that any further action should be considered under the Aircraft Act by the appropriate authorities.
