Kejriwal Accuses BJP, Police of Intimidating AAP Workers Ahead of Delhi Polls

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India , alleging that members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and personnel from the Delhi Police are systematically harassing volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party in the lead-up to the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. In his letter, Kejriwal urges the EC to deploy independent observers in the New Delhi constituency to ensure a fair electoral process and calls for the arrest of BJP workers allegedly involved in these incidents, as well as the suspension of complicit police officers.

Kejriwal's complaint highlights the unlawful detention of a senior AAP volunteer at the Tilak Marg Police Station. The volunteer was reportedly charged under Section 126 of the BNSS, 2023, on what Kejriwal describes as "baseless and fictitious grounds," asserting that the individual had no prior cases against him. The detained volunteer allegedly suffered physical abuse by the police, leading to a loss of consciousness. Further allegations include threats by BJP workers against the families of AAP volunteers and vandalism of their properties.

In a related development, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has also written to the Election Commission, alleging that BJP workers assaulted AAP volunteers in the New Delhi constituency and attempted to obstruct their campaigning efforts. Singh's letter emphasizes the need for immediate intervention to prevent further escalation of violence and to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

These allegations come amid a tense political climate in Delhi, with the AAP accusing the central government and the Delhi Police of conspiring to eliminate Kejriwal. AAP leader Atishi has alleged that over the past three months, there have been multiple attacks on Kejriwal, including physical assaults and stone-pelting during political rallies. She claims that the Delhi Police, under the direction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has turned a blind eye to these incidents, further endangering Kejriwal's safety.
