Amit Shah Denounces Uddhav Thackeray's Alliance with Congress

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticized Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for aligning with the Congress party, accusing him of betraying the ideologies of his father, Balasaheb Thackeray, and Veer Savarkar. Speaking at the launch of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections in Mumbai, Shah challenged Thackeray to persuade Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to speak favorably about Savarkar.

Shah highlighted the ideological contradictions within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which comprises the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He accused Thackeray of compromising his father's principles by collaborating with parties that opposed the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the abrogation of Article 370, and the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Addressing the audience, Shah stated, "Uddhav ji, I can’t decide where you sit. But I want to tell you that you’re sitting with those who opposed the abrogation of Article 370. You’re sitting with those who opposed the construction of Ram Janambhoomi temple. You’re sitting with those who speak ill of Savarkar. You’re sitting with those who opposed CAA and UCC."

He further questioned Thackeray's commitment to his father's legacy, asking, "Can he ask Rahul Gandhi to say something good about Veer Savarkar? Can any Congress leader speak something to honour Balasaheb Thackeray?"

Shah also criticized the MVA's approach to governance, accusing them of indulging in appeasement politics and betraying the cultural values of Maharashtra for political gain. He urged voters to support the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a government that upholds the state's cultural heritage and development goals.

In response, Uddhav Thackeray addressed rallies in the Konkan region, where he criticized Shah for the alleged relocation of industrial projects from Maharashtra to Gujarat. Thackeray questioned Shah's vision for development and promised to prevent the transfer of projects out of Maharashtra if elected to power.

Thackeray also reiterated his opposition to the proposed refinery project at Barsu in the Konkan region, citing ecological concerns. He framed the forthcoming elections as a battle between those who love Maharashtra and those who betray it, urging voters to reject the Mahayuti alliance.

The political landscape in Maharashtra remains highly polarized as the state approaches assembly elections scheduled for November 20. The BJP and its allies are positioning themselves as defenders of cultural and ideological values, while the MVA alliance emphasizes regional development and autonomy. Voters are faced with a choice between competing visions for the state's future, each invoking the legacy of historical figures and cultural icons to bolster their positions.

As the campaign intensifies, both sides are expected to escalate their rhetoric and outreach efforts to sway the electorate. The outcome of the elections will not only determine the composition of the state government but also signal the prevailing political sentiments in one of India's most economically significant states.

The BJP's manifesto, unveiled by Shah, includes 25 guarantees aimed at addressing various aspects of governance and development in Maharashtra. These promises range from infrastructure development to social welfare initiatives, reflecting the party's strategy to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters.

Meanwhile, the MVA alliance is focusing on critiquing the BJP's track record and presenting alternative policies that they argue better serve the interests of Maharashtra's residents. The alliance's campaign highlights issues such as the preservation of regional identity, economic development, and social justice.
