Ajit Pawar Rebukes Supporters in Baramati: 'Voting Doesn't Make You My Master'

During a public event in Baramati, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed frustration when supporters inundated him with letters concerning various issues. He remarked, "You voted for me; that does not mean you have become my boss. Have you made me a farm labourer now?"

Cabinet Minister Sanjay Shirsat defended Pawar's outburst, suggesting that while elected representatives are working, persistent demands from voters can lead to such reactions. He noted that the behavior of voters often goes unexamined when officials' comments are highlighted.

Pawar's remarks have sparked criticism from political opponents. Jitendra Awhad, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), emphasized the supremacy of voters in a democracy, implying that Pawar's comments were inappropriate.

The incident has ignited discussions about the relationship between elected officials and their constituents, highlighting the challenges representatives face in balancing public expectations with administrative responsibilities.

In addition to addressing voter concerns, Pawar discussed Baramati's real estate market during the event. He observed that the market declined after his wife, Sunetra Pawar, lost the Lok Sabha election but rebounded following his victory in the Baramati assembly seat. Pawar stated, "Baramati's real estate market is growing, but big developers from Mumbai and Pune have not yet entered it. When the purchasing power of the people of Baramati increases, it will help real estate, and then we will see big players setting up their projects in the tehsil."

He attributed fluctuations in the real estate sector to electoral outcomes, suggesting that the "Pawar versus Pawar" contests impacted business confidence. Referring to Sunetra's defeat, Pawar said, "After the Lok Sabha result, some people involved in real estate dealings were wondering what really happened. I feel that I got a lead of over one lakh votes (in the assembly poll) because people wanted to ensure that I should be part of government. After we formed government, the real estate market of Baramati witnessed a rise again."

Pawar also issued a warning to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) officials against unauthorized changes in land status. He stated, "We made certain plots commercial so that industries would be set up and people of the tehsil would get employment here. However, MIDC officials cannot go on a spree changing the status of plots. Not a single plot's status will be converted from residential to commercial without my knowledge."
