Moradabad Residents Protest Property Sale to Muslim Family

Tensions have escalated in a residential society in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, after the sale of two properties to a Muslim family sparked protests among residents. The controversy has highlighted underlying communal divisions, with some homeowners expressing discontent over what they perceive as an encroachment on their community’s demographic makeup.

The dispute began when a homeowner in the posh Ashiana Colony sold their property to a Muslim family, followed by another similar transaction in the vicinity. These sales, facilitated through legal means, were met with hostility from a section of the neighborhood. Protesters have argued that such sales disrupt the harmony and cultural character of the locality. They have gone as far as threatening to vacate the area in what they termed a potential "exodus" should the trend continue.

Residents opposing the sales have reportedly approached the local administration, seeking intervention to reverse the transactions. While some allege that these sales violate unwritten societal norms, others fear a domino effect that might lead to further sales altering the neighborhood’s demographic balance. However, legal experts have pointed out that such objections are unfounded, as property sales are private matters between consenting parties under Indian law.

Amid the uproar, voices of support for the Muslim families have also emerged. Advocates for communal harmony have emphasized the need to uphold constitutional principles, urging the community to prioritize inclusivity over division. Critics of the protests argue that actions based on religious bias undermine the spirit of unity and coexistence.

The district administration has maintained a neutral stance, indicating that unless legal irregularities are found in the property transactions, they cannot intervene. Officials have also urged residents to resolve their differences amicably to prevent further unrest.
