Bihar Police File Case Against Prashant Kishor Following Violent Student Protests

Thousands of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants clashed with police in Patna, leading to a case against political strategist Prashant Kishor and others. The students were protesting alleged irregularities in the 70th Combined Competitive Examination, demanding a re-examination.

The demonstration began at Gandhi Maidan, with protesters attempting to march to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's residence. Police intervened using lathi charges and water cannons after protesters breached barricades. Authorities reported damage to equipment and confrontations with officials, including magistrates and police personnel.

An FIR has been filed against over 700 individuals, including Prashant Kishor and several coaching center owners, accusing them of unauthorized assembly, incitement, and disturbing public order. Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party allegedly organized the protest without official permission, contributing to the unrest.

Kishor, who joined the protest expressing solidarity with the students, had earlier called for a "Chhatra Sansad" (Student Parliament) at Gandhi Maidan, which was denied permission by city authorities. The Jan Suraaj Party, launched in October 2024, plans to contest all constituencies in Bihar's upcoming assembly elections, focusing on addressing core issues rather than populist measures.

The situation remains tense as students continue to demand a re-examination, alleging a question paper leak in the BPSC preliminary examination. Authorities have yet to respond to these allegations.
