Rajasthan CM's Bid for Court Exemption Denied in 2013 Riot Case

Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bhajanlal Sharma, encountered a legal setback as Jaipur's Additional District Judge Anamika Saharan dismissed his request for a permanent exemption from court appearances in connection to his ongoing 2013 Gopalgarh riots case. This decision maintains Sharma’s responsibility to appear for all future hearings unless otherwise granted temporary leave by the court. Judge Saharan cited insufficient grounds for an exemption, stating that his political role as chief minister did not warrant a permanent exclusion from the judicial process. Sharma had argued that frequent official travel obligations outside Jaipur and internationally justified his application, yet the court found the reasoning unconvincing.
