Militants Attack Army Convoy in J&K’s Poonch, Search Efforts Escalate

A security operation is unfolding in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir following an attack by suspected militants on an Army convoy late Friday. Reports indicate the incident took place in the Krishna Ghati sector, where militants fired upon military vehicles moving through the forested, rugged terrain. Security officials reported no casualties from the attack, yet the incident underscores a trend of increased militant activity in this region, leading to intensified security operations.

In response, the Indian Army, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a large-scale search operation to locate the assailants who are believed to have retreated into the nearby forest. Troops on the ground were quickly deployed, aided by surveillance technologies to track potential escape routes through the dense woodlands.

Poonch and the adjacent Rajouri district have witnessed a rise in militant attacks over the past year. Notably, previous strikes in the area included a deadly ambush in December, when a militant group targeted Army personnel near Dhatyar Morh, resulting in casualties. The pattern of militant activity, predominantly along known infiltration routes, has prompted security forces to implement additional counter-insurgency measures.

Jammu and Kashmir’s top military and police officials had convened a high-level security meeting in Poonch recently to discuss strategies addressing the escalation of such attacks. A variety of countermeasures were reportedly outlined, focusing on preventing further assaults on Army units traversing these vulnerable routes.
