A Chennai trial court has sentenced former Tamil Nadu government officer G. Chandrasekaran and his wife Latha to four years of rigorous imprisonment for amassing wealth exceeding their known sources of income. The case, initiated after complaints of disproportionate assets, involved assets allegedly acquired through unaccounted funds totaling several million rupees. Judge Vasanthi Rama of the Chennai Special Court handed down the sentence, emphasizing the need for accountability among public officials.
Chandrasekaran’s financial irregularities surfaced in investigations by Tamil Nadu's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), revealing assets beyond legitimate means. Properties in prime Chennai locations, as well as multiple high-value assets, were identified. The investigation further implicated Latha, whose involvement extended to acquisitions attributed to her name, creating a complex asset trail.
