Tensions Rise in Dharavi as Locals Halt Mosque Demolition

A heated confrontation erupted in Dharavi, Mumbai, when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) attempted to demolish parts of the Mehboob-e-Subani Mosque, leading to a tense standoff between residents and civic authorities. The situation turned volatile as a large crowd gathered to prevent the demolition team from proceeding, forcing the police to step in and manage the escalating tension.

The dispute centers around the mosque, where ongoing construction work was labeled illegal by the BMC. Residents, however, contested the demolition, claiming the construction had been underway for months and accusing the civic body of neglect until now. The altercation became physical when the crowd surrounded BMC vehicles, leading to reports of damage to two of the municipal vehicles.
