India has been summoned by a US court in a case involving an alleged plot to assassinate Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Pannun, a US-Canadian dual citizen and leader of the radical group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has accused high-ranking Indian officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and former R&AW chief Samant Goel, of orchestrating an assassination attempt against him. Pannun's legal team claims that US intelligence thwarted the plot last year.
The summons, issued to both the Indian government and specific individuals, demands a response within 21 days. While India has yet to make an official public statement in court, the Ministry of External Affairs has acknowledged the lawsuit. Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi called the allegations concerning, especially as they contradict Indian government policy. Despite this legal action, the Indian government continues to prioritize its growing relationship with the United States.
