Majid Choudhary, a 28-year-old accused in the Gokulpuri road rage and murder case, was apprehended by the Delhi Police following a brief exchange of gunfire. The arrest took place in the early hours of Friday, marking a significant development in a case that has captured public attention.
The incident that led to Choudhary’s arrest stems from a violent altercation in Gokulpuri, northeast Delhi, where an elderly couple, Radhey Shyam Verma (72) and his wife Veena (68), were brutally murdered in their home. The couple was attacked while they were sleeping, and their residence was subsequently robbed of cash and jewelry.
Following the murders, investigations revealed the involvement of multiple suspects. The couple's daughter-in-law, Monika Verma, and her lover, Ashish, were arrested earlier in connection with the crime. It was discovered that Monika conspired with Ashish and his friend, Majid Choudhary, to carry out the robbery and murders. The motive behind the crime was primarily financial gain, with the suspects targeting the elderly couple’s savings and valuables.
Choudhary had managed to evade capture for several days, prompting an extensive manhunt. Acting on a tip-off about his location, police tracked him down to an area near Kotla village in Mayur Vihar. As officers moved in to apprehend him, Choudhary opened fire, leading to a brief shootout before he was overpowered and taken into custody. No injuries were reported during the exchange.
The arrest brings a measure of closure to the brutal case, highlighting the Delhi Police's commitment to solving violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. Choudhary’s capture follows a string of similar high-profile arrests in the region, underscoring the police’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and crack down on criminal activities.
With Choudhary now in custody, police are expected to interrogate him further to gather additional details about the crime and the involvement of other possible accomplices. The investigation remains active, as authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragic murders in Gokulpuri.
