Two Teenagers Fatally Shoot Doctor at Delhi Hospital
A tragic shooting at a private hospital in Delhi's Jaitpur area resulted in the death of a 55-year-old doctor, Javed Akhtar, a well-known practitioner of Unani medicine. Authorities believe two teenagers, estimated to be around 16 or 17 years old, entered the hospital late at night under the pretext of seeking medical care. The suspects, reportedly involved in the shooting, have yet to be apprehended.
The incident unfolded when the two teens arrived at the hospital requesting a dressing change for one of their toes. After being attended to by the hospital staff, they proceeded to Dr. Akhtar's cabin, ostensibly to discuss a prescription. Shortly afterward, a gunshot was heard, leaving the doctor fatally wounded from a close-range shot to the head. Hospital personnel, including staff members Gajala Parveen and Md Kamil, rushed to the scene but found Akhtar already severely injured. He succumbed to his injuries soon after.
Authorities are treating the killing as premeditated, suspecting the teens' visit the previous day may have been part of a reconnaissance effort. This theory is bolstered by the fact that they sought medical attention on both occasions, allowing them to scout the hospital environment before executing their plan. Police are analyzing CCTV footage from the hospital to identify the perpetrators and ascertain the motive behind the attack.
While the investigation is ongoing, early reports suggest this was not a random crime but a targeted act. Investigators are working to establish whether the shooting is related to any personal disputes or organized crime networks. Given the teenagers' young age, their involvement in such a violent act has sparked concerns about growing juvenile delinquency in the region.
