Authorities in Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh have already been placed on alert. Sea conditions are anticipated to become rough between October 22 and 25, prompting the IMD to issue advisories for fishermen in the affected regions to return to shore by October 21. The situation is being closely monitored, with rainfall expected along the coasts, particularly in Odisha, where the IMD forecasts heavy downpours between October 23 and 25. Thunderstorms may also occur in isolated areas as early as October 20.
Although some international meteorological models indicate the possibility of this system evolving into a full-fledged cyclone, the IMD has cautioned that a more accurate prediction can only be made once the low-pressure system forms. Director General Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra emphasized the need for vigilance but stopped short of confirming cyclone development. However, authorities are not taking any chances, as cyclonic activity in the Bay of Bengal at this time of year is typically hazardous, especially for vulnerable coastal areas.
