Two Soldiers Killed in Intense Encounter in Kashmir’s Anantnag

Two soldiers were killed, and three others sustained injuries during an intense encounter with militants in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The clash erupted during a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the densely forested region.

The operation was initiated based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. As the security forces approached the suspected hideout, they came under heavy fire from the militants, leading to a fierce gun battle. The two soldiers who lost their lives were critically injured in the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.

In addition to the soldiers, two civilians were also injured due to indiscriminate firing by the militants. They were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The militants involved in the encounter are believed to be foreign nationals, and efforts are ongoing to neutralize them. Special forces, including paratroopers, have been deployed to the area to support the operation, which remains active.

This incident marks the second significant encounter in the Kokernag region within the past year, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in curbing militancy in the area. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the details of the encounter through a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), indicating that the operation is still in progress.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains tense as security forces continue their efforts to eliminate militant threats and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.
