Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Government Over AIIMS Patients' Plight

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the areas surrounding the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday night, where numerous patients and their families have been residing on roads, footpaths, and subways while awaiting medical treatment. During his visit, Gandhi interacted with these individuals, inquiring about their challenges and expressing concern over their hardships.

In a social media post, Gandhi highlighted the dire conditions faced by those seeking medical care, stating, "Burden of disease, biting cold, and government insensitivity—today I met patients and their families outside AIIMS who have come from far and wide in search of treatment." He further emphasized that these individuals are "forced to sleep on roads, footpaths, and subways—just keeping a flame of hope burning amidst the cold ground, hunger, and inconveniences." Gandhi attributed this situation to the failure of both the Central and Delhi governments in fulfilling their responsibilities towards the public.

Among those Gandhi spoke with was Pawan Kumar, whose 13-year-old daughter is battling blood cancer. Kumar shared that they had arrived at AIIMS on December 3 but had yet to receive proper treatment. He recounted, "He [Gandhi] asked me for my phone number and said that his team will contact me and help me as much as possible." Kumar's wife, Asha Devi, mentioned that Gandhi promised to provide financial support for their daughter's treatment.

Another patient, Govind Lal, noted that Gandhi inquired about his stay and the treatment of his daughters, reflecting a personal engagement with the individuals he met.
