Supreme Court dismisses plea on Subhash Chandra Bose inquiry

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea requesting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Subhash Chandra Bose, criticizing the petitioner for making irresponsible allegations against deceased national leaders. The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan, expressed concerns over the credibility of the petitioner and the organization he claimed to represent.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) called for a comprehensive probe into Bose’s death, alleging concealment of facts by prominent figures of the freedom struggle. However, the court labeled the allegations reckless and highlighted the lack of substantial evidence backing the claims. The petitioner was directed to provide a detailed affidavit outlining societal contributions and the activities of his organization.

The court also questioned the motives behind the PIL, emphasizing that such accusations against deceased leaders undermine historical discourse and national respect. The next hearing is scheduled for May 6, during which the petitioner is expected to clarify his intentions and submit organizational records.
