The scuffle centered around a disagreement over the quality and planning of a cement-concrete road being built near the Asif Nagar police station. Congress leader Mohammed Feroz Khan, who is contesting for the MLA seat in Nampally, reportedly visited the site following complaints from locals regarding the lack of a proper sewage system under the new road. According to Khan, the area’s residents were facing severe travel and parking issues, leading him to inspect the project for its compliance with proper infrastructure standards.
During this inspection, tensions escalated when Khan's group encountered supporters of AIMIM's sitting Nampally MLA, Mohammed Majid Hussain. What started as an argument quickly devolved into a full-blown physical altercation, resulting in injuries to at least five people from both camps. Eyewitnesses reported that police intervention was necessary to restore order as the two sides engaged in intense verbal and physical exchanges.
Khan alleged that AIMIM's supporters attacked his group using a police officer’s baton, accusing Hussain of orchestrating the confrontation to disrupt the inspection. He vowed to escalate the matter by discussing it with senior Congress leaders and filing formal complaints with state officials, including the Commissioner of Police (CP) and Director General of Police (DGP).
On the other hand, Hussain refuted the claims, asserting that Congress members were causing unnecessary disruptions to the development work. According to Hussain, his supporters were merely conducting a peaceful padayatra (march) when they came across Congress workers harassing the contractor overseeing the road project. Hussain questioned Khan’s authority to inspect municipal construction projects, arguing that such responsibilities lie with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, not politicians.
