Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc has commenced receiving renewable energy from Serentica Renewables. This green power will be utilized to fuel the company's operational units based in Rajasthan. The integration of renewable energy marks a significant stride in Hindustan Zinc's unwavering commitment to sustainability and clean energy integration.
By incorporating renewable power from Serentica, Hindustan Zinc is poised to enhance the proportion of renewables in its overall energy mix. The company currently harnesses 40. 70 MW of solar power through its captive solar power capacity but relies on conventional fuel sources for the remaining power requirements. This strategic move is anticipated to result in an annual reduction of approximately 0. 45 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Hindustan Zinc's collaboration with Serentica reinforces its position as a global leader in sustainable metals and mining, a distinction acknowledged by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023. The company has entered into Power Delivery Agreements (PDAs) with Serentica for the supply of 450 MW of round-the-clock (RE-RTC) power, thereby ensuring operational reliability and sustainability across its key business units.
This initiative propels Hindustan Zinc towards the forefront of zinc producers globally in the adoption of green energy. The company is resolute in achieving net-zero value-chain emissions by 2050, aiming for a 40% reduction in carbon footprint and carbon neutrality by the same year. The transition to renewable energy for its entire operations and the production of green lead and zinc products are integral to this ambitious goal.
